Ideal Gas Law Calculator (PV = nRT)

Ideal Gas Law Calculator (PV = nRT)

About the Ideal Gas Law (PV = nRT)

The Ideal Gas Law is a fundamental equation in chemistry and physics that describes the behavior of ideal gases. It combines several gas laws—Boyle’s, Charles’s, and Avogadro’s laws—into one formula:

PV = nRT

  • P = Pressure (in atmospheres, atm)
  • V = Volume (in liters, L)
  • n = Number of moles (mol)
  • R = Ideal Gas Constant = 0.0821 L·atm/mol·K
  • T = Temperature (in Kelvin, K)

This calculator lets you solve for any one variable (P, V, n, or T) by inputting the other three values. It is especially useful for:

  • Solving gas law problems in chemistry or physics classes
  • Quickly checking homework or experiment results
  • Understanding the relationship between gas properties

Note: Ensure temperature is in Kelvin. To convert from Celsius: K = °C + 273.15.
